Let’s honour the spirit of sacrifice and build a stronger nation together.

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with the enthusiastic spirit of patriotism. The was filled with patriotic enthusiasm as students, instructors, and staff gathered to celebrate the nation’s independence. The event began with a flag-raising ceremony. The national flag was unfurled by the Chief Guest, an eminent personality Dr. Gopal Kulkarni.

 The celebration kicked off with a spectacular march past by students demonstrating synchronization and discipline. Students expressed their gratitude to the selfless sacrifice of many noble souls who are the reason for the freedom that we are enjoying today. To add colour to the event students presented a series of meaningful programmes like patriotic song, classical dance, and patriotic dance, inspiring speeches followed by a thought-provoking skit highlighting the milestone events of Indian Freedom Struggle.

The Chief Guest Dr. Gopal Kulkarni in his address, urged the students to be self-disciplined and grow up to be responsible citizens of future India. He also engaged the students productively by conducting an interesting quiz suitable to the occasion.

 The occasion ended with a note of appreciation by the chief guest, followed by the National song. The Independence Day celebrations was a remarkable one that fostered patriotism and pride in the hearts of the audience. Jai Hind!!

September 4, 2024 at VAGDEVI VILAS SCHOOL VARTHUR BANGALORE The Earth does not belong to us; we belong to the Earth!    Let’s cherish and protect our planet today and always.  Environmental sustainability is the ability to maintain an ecological balance in our planet’s natural environment and conserve natural resources to support the wellbeing of current and future generations. A special Green Assembly was conducted to reinforce and uphold the motto, Conserve my Planet, through an array of programmes on September 4th, 2024 at our school campus. Furthermore, the formal event continued in the AV room with Smt. Ramya R, EHS Lead, Schneider electric India Pvt. Ltd., as the Chief Guest; accompanied by Sri Hayat, program coordinator rom SHARP NGO. The dais was shared by Director (R&D) Smt. Sindhu R, Deputy Director (R&D) Sri. Govindan, Principal Smt. Leela Padma and Vice Principal Sri. Sanjeev Kumar. The event aimed to educate and inspire students to take proactive steps in preserving our planet while ensuring safety for all. The event commenced with a ‘Parisara Geethe’ by the students paying tribute to mother nature followed by welcome address by Smt. Sindhu R. The Chief Guest Smt. Ramya R gave a thought-provoking speech about the need to conserve our planet earth. This was followed by a captivating speech by the principal emphasizing the urgent need to address environmental issues highlighting the role of schools and students in shaping a sustainable future. The chief guest, along with other dignitaries distributed Green kits to the Green Ambassadors. The power pledge by Schneider was administered by Aimen Dalal of Grade VIII and was repeated with full energy and enthusiasm by all the Green Ambassadors along with the dignitaries. The event was anchored by Smt. Reema Sarkar. Smt. Sakshi Agarwal teacher coordinator of the program proposed the Vote of Thanks.  This was followed by a photo session of green Ambassadors with the guests. In conclusion, the event on a Greener and Safer Environment was a resounding success. It not only educated students about the pressing environmental issues but also inspired them to become active participants in creating a better future. Today’s wastage is tomorrow’s shortage! So, save energy today to save your tomorrows!

 EMPOWERED TO LEAD: INVESTITURE CEREMONY

 “You are never too small to make a difference.”

 On this note, Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur witnessed a ceremonial investiture ceremony to hand over duties and obligations to the newly elected students council, house mistresses and co- mistresses on 12th of July, 2024.

Investiture Ceremony is a momentous occasion when the school entrusts faith, hope and responsibility with the newly appointed school cabinet. The council, chosen through fair election process pledged to work collaboratively to create a supportive and engaging school environment.

The school band organized an honourable welcome for the principal visitor, Sri. K. Harish sir, a former ISRO scientist and the school’s chairman, followed by flag hoisting. The ceremony was presided over by Chairman Sir. K. Harish, Principal Smt. K. Leela Padma, Vice Principal Sri Sanjeev Kumar, Academic Advisor Smt. Poorna, Academic Coordinators, and Teachers. The gathering started with a beautiful and lyrical invocation song followed by welcome address by coordinator Smt. Chaitanya R.

Sri. K. Harish, the Chairman, recognized the school leaders and house leaders by bestowing upon them with badges. An oath administration was conducted by the school’s head by Chi. Sam Thomas John. Taking the oath of responsibility and secrecy, the students promised to protect the school’s dignity and tradition, which was followed by the revelation of the unique and creative logos by the respective house mistress and co- mistress. They further went on to explain the goals represented by each house: Keerthi (Red), Shakthi (Blue), Shanthi (Green) and Bhakthi (Yellow).

The head boy Chi. Sam Thomas John in his address pledged to uphold the traditional values of the institution and assured to lead with zeal and enthusiasm to reach new heights. He expressed his gratitude and promised to exceed expectations. The head girl Kum. Radhika Thakur, made an impression by quoting ‘Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge’. She promised to lead by example with dedication and commitment. They showed their gratitude for the honour and privilege of being conferred upon with the prestigious titles.

The event began with a stirring demonstration of discipline and unity: a march past by the various student contingents. They exhibited a sense of pride and purpose wearing their house colour uniforms and holding the respective flags. The march past was accompanied by a loud rhythmic beat of drums and synchronized footwork. The chairman addressed the students with an informative and encouraging discourse, highlighting the importance of self- discipline, hard work and being responsible for their own lives. The event concluded with a note of gratitude delivered by coordinator Smt. Mamta Srivastava.

 “Healing is not easy, but it’s tougher to regret”

On school campuses across the country, substance addiction has emerged as an alarming and a concerning health epidemic. VVS Varthur planned an anti-drug awareness day on June 28, 2024, taking into account the challenges of the current situation. A special audience of secondary pupils of Grade 1X and X attended the programme. Smt. Chaithanya R, Academic coordinator of secondary classes briefed about the goal; ‘A world free of drug abuse’. The theme for the year 2024 is “The evidence is clear: Invest in prevention” was elaborated to raise an awareness.  

An informative presentation and thought provoking speech by Sri. Manjunatha Sub Inspector of Police, Varthur Police Station was a major eye opener of the session. He emphasized the importance of living a drug-free and healthy lifestyle. The programme aimed at to educating the students about the harmful effects of drug addiction. He cautioned about the demerits of overindulgence in drugs which has proven fatal.

The audience’ participation increased the session’s effectiveness and engagement. The students found the session to be enlightening, and many of their doubts and queries, on the subject were answered. This was the perfect platform to raise awareness on a very crucial issue of the century/ society.

Parent Orientation Programme 2024- 25

 A parent is a child’s university! A teacher is child’s idol!

 A strong partnership between parents and teachers ensure that the child’s educational needs are met both at home and in school. It allows for open communication, collaboration, and shared insights, leading to be better understanding of the child’s strengths, weaknesses, and progress. This partnership also promotes a consistent approach to discipline, reinforces positive behaviour, and creates a supportive learning environment for the child. The programme started off with an invocation.

Parent orientation programme was scheduled on different Saturdays for different levels for the convenience of the parents.

The Principal Smt. Leela Padma welcomed the parents and provided a brief overview of the academic plan for the year 2024- 25.

The parent orientation programme included presentations by school coordinators providing an overview of the school’s curriculum, policies, assessment strategies and expectations. Parents also had a chance to meet the teachers, and gain insights into the daily activities and routines of school. Short and meaningful videos were shown for the benefit of all. The videos gave incredible message on good parenting by eminent speakers like Smt. Sudha Murthy and renowned Psychiatrist Sri. ShreedharMaheshwari.

The qualified, talented and committed team of teachers were introduced to the parents across levels. There was an open house for the parents to discuss their concerns and clarify their doubts, if any. It was well addressed by the principal and academic coordinators.

Academic advisor Smt. Poorna and Vice Principal Sri. Sanjeev Kumar shared their views on how to nurture a child with care and concern to build the learners’ confidence. Parents and teachers vowed to work collaboratively for the progress of the students. The programme ended with vote of thanks followed by Shanthi Mantra.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on June 21st to promote global awareness about the benefits of yoga. At Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur,this day was celebrated with enthusiasm and vigour.

The day began with a specially planned assembly. An array of programmes was meticulously planned and executed. A brief introduction to yoga and its significance was given to set the tone for the day followed by an invocation song by students of STD X.

Aum mantra,’ considered the supreme mantra was chanted by all creating positive vibration all around.

‘Shloka chanting’helps to improve concentration and memory power. All the students chanted shlokaslead by our Sanskritteacher, Sri Subramanya.

‘Suryanamaskara,’ which covers 12 asanas was performed by students of all grades to show utmost gratitude to the all powerful and radiant‘Surya Bhagwan.’

A creative display of yogawas performedby students of Std II to IX trained by our efficient yoga coach Kum. Yashoda.

It was followed by a speech inKannada by Kum. TiyaTanmayeeand in English by Kum. Aimen Dalal to create awareness on the benefits of yoga in our lives.

At Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur, the celebration of International Yoga Day was a resounding success. VVI embraces yoga not just as a one-day celebration, but as a part of regular curriculum and culture with a strong hope of always keeping it a part of everyone’s healthy physical and mental well being.

The programme concluded by thanking all those who hadparticipated and made the day a memorable one, followed by Shanti mantra.

It’s not yours, nor mine. It’s ours. Help protect mother earth!

Our school organized a special assembly on June 14th to commemorate World Environment Day. The primary objective of this event was to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage students to adopt eco-friendly practices. This year’s theme being, “Our Land, Our Future”, the focus was on the significance of land in sustaining life and biodiversity, as well as the urgent need to restore degraded land and build resilience against droughts and desertification.

The assembly commenced with a captivating folk song (Parisara Geethe) performed by our talented school choir, setting the tone for the rest of the event. Following this, students from various grades actively participated in the assembly through a series of presentations and performances.

The students from Grades 3 and 4 presented an engaging skit, ‘The web of life’, that highlighted the importance of saving the food chain by protecting the environment. Grade 6 students showcased a mesmerizing mime show centered on the theme of saving trees. Additionally, Grade 3 students presented a vibrant dance performance advocating for the preservation of the environment. Furthermore, Grade 2 students enlightened the audience about two renowned environmentalists, Shri Payeng Jadhav and Shri Rajendra Singh known popularly as ‘The forest man of India’ and ‘The water man of India’ respectively.

To conclude the assembly, a rally was organized within the school premises aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship among the students. The active participation and enthusiasm displayed by both students and staff members truly emphasized the school’s commitment in creating a sustainable future.

The event underscored the power of education in driving environmental change. The assembly reinforced the notion that every small action contributes to a larger, collective effort to preserve our planet. It was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees and inspiring them to take proactive steps towards a greener and more sustainable future.

Be it big or small, your actions matter. So, let’s do a bit to save environment!
