The Independence Day has great significance as it reminds us of the sacrifices and struggles of the freedom fighters, leading us towards a free mother land. Not only does this day  symbolize the celebration of freedom but also extends an emphatic message of the progressive future of our country.

The 73rd Independence Day of our motherland, India, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour in the school premises. The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag by the Chief Guest Prof. K.Raghothama Rao. This was followed by the energetic display of March Past on the resounding beats of the school band.

The thought provoking speech by the Chief Guest gave an insight into shaping one’s character through the values and wisdom, which are an integral part of our rich culture.

A rainbow of cultural programmes was presented, which included a mime show, declamation of some great leaders, inspirational song and drill. The programme concluded with a dance by the high school students, which kindled the patriotic feeling in everyone present, to commemorate this joyous occasion.

Indeed, it was a day of celebration, a day to love and respect our country and make it a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.

At Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur, we believe that students have to be prepared to make big difference to their community and life. Educational field trips to Organisations are planned to widen the horizons of the students.

With this aim in mind, the students were taken to Adamya Chetana, the green kitchen. Adamya Chetana is a voluntary organisation working since 1997 with ANNA – AKSHARA – AROGYA( food – education – health) as its core intervention areas.

The students were surprised to know that this organisation serves hot, nutritious mid-day meals to more than 1.5 lakh students everyday. Also, the  most fascinating and appreciable fact that the students learnt was about their zero garbage kitchen and fossil free cooking at their Annapurna Kitchen. The students were amazed to know that not even a single kilogram of garbage has been put out in Municipality bins since 2013.

The trip was indeed fruitful as the students learnt about innovative ways to REDUCE , REUSE and RECYCLE garbage.

Oration helps the children to improve their ability in expressing  their ideas, thoughts and needs. Besides, it also boosts their self-confidence and enhances their vocabulary skill.

To encourage this oratory skill in our students, Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur conducted an inter class oration competition as a part of the Co-curricular activities for grade II

The students  spoke on the topic ‘Me and my Earth.‘ The speakers showed active participation by displaying placards / charts for better delivery of their topics.

The students of Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur are always encouraged to develop first hand knowledge on the concepts they learn within the boundaries of classroom.

To facilitate the same ,the students  were taken on an educational field trip to the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium , Bangalore.

The main objective of this trip is to develop scientific fervor, inculcate the scientific temper and the attitude of inquisitiveness.

Students enjoyed  the theatre show, seeing the celestial objects projected on the doomed ceiling . Also, the students  explored and had hands on experience of working models of Space Science.

Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur has set a benchmark for conducting activities like debate, group discussion, quiz, paper presentation etc…

Recently an inter class debate competition was held on the topic “Social media has made people more sociable.” This provided a platform for the students to showcase their critical thinking ability and hone their skills of public speaking.

The contemporary atmosphere of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp came to limelight through this discussion.

On 24th July 2019, a handwriting workshop was organised in Vagdevi Vilas School, Varthur by Shri. Mallikarjuna Rao , Director of  National Handwriting Academy ( NHA ).His expertise lies in three branches of handwriting – Calligraphy, Graphology and Graphotherapy.
